Counseling

Components of the Galloway Township Public School Counseling/Guidance Program:

The Galloway Township School District's comprehensive School Counseling/Guidance program integrates academic, career and personal/social development. The School Counseling/Guidance curriculum is composed of organized objectives and activities to provide information, knowledge, and skills that are appropriate developmentally and sequentially. Counselors often deliver the curriculum in large group settings, such as classroom presentations, which offer the best opportunity to provide guidance to the largest number of students in our schools. Frequently, the initial large group meetings are followed by smaller group sessions where students can discuss the presented material in more detail. Counselors may also partner with teachers, other educational departments, and various members of the school community to deliver parts of the guidance curriculum. Classroom lessons, small groups, individual counseling, and consultation are the primary delivery methods in an effective school counseling program.

The School Counselors are also the Anti-Bullying Specialists (ABS) for the District.

The responsibilities of the ABS include the following:

- Chairing the school safety team;

- Leading the investigation of Harassment Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) incidents in the school; and

- Acting as the primary school official responsible for preventing, identifying and addressing HIB incidents in the school.
